A Fierce word!

“If I were in your shoes, I’d go straight to God, I’d throw myself on the mercy of God. After all, he’s famous for great and unexpected acts; there’s no end to his surprises. He gives rain, for instance, across the wide earth, sends water to irrigate the fields. He raises up the down-and-out, gives firm footing to those sinking in grief. He aborts the schemes of conniving crooks, so that none of their plots come to term. He catches the know-it-alls in their conspiracies— all that intricate intrigue swept out with the trash! Suddenly they’re disoriented, plunged into darkness; they can’t see to put one foot in front of the other. But the downtrodden are saved by God, saved from the murderous plots, saved from the iron fist. And so the poor continue to hope, while injustice is bound and gagged. (Job 5:8-16 MSG)

This has to be the most amazing love letter to us from God Almighty

How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son. Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ, a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth. It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone. It’s in Christ that you, once you heard the truth and believed it (this Message of your salvation), found yourselves home free—signed, sealed, and delivered by the Holy Spirit. This signet from God is the first installment on what’s coming, a reminder that we’ll get everything God has planned for us, a praising and glorious life. (Ephesians 1:3-14 MSG)

Why the lion roars?

“My chosen people have roared at me like a lion of the forest, so I have treated them with contempt.”
Jeremiah 12.8(NLT)

Reasons why lions roar

    1.To Communicate with each other
    2. Proclaim their territory – an act they perform every evening to keep other dominant lions away!
    3. Roaring is utilised by a lion as a strategy to confuse and allow for the effective capture of prey. The lion in all his might creeps up behind unsuspecting prey and in a sudden burst ROARS extremely loud sending shockwaves through the defenceless animal – who in turn is so bewildered and is unable to logically escape leading to its untimely death.

Analysis of Jeremiah 12:8

1. The people are communicating only among themselves and ignoring the sovereignty of the Lord and His Voice. They do not concern themselves with the counsel of the Lord nor do they believe that it is worth the ground they walk on. They devise ways to keep God out of their dealings among each other – and instead turn to Baal worship as a substitute to the reality of God’s voice.

Jeremiah 8: 4-7

“4 Jeremiah, say to the people,`This is what the LORD says:

“When people fall down, don’t they get up again?
When they discover they’re on the wrong road, don’t they turn back?
5 Then why do these people stay on their self-destructive
Why do the people of Jerusalem refuse to turn back?
They cling tightly to their lies
and will not turn around.
6 I listen to their conversations
and don’t hear a word of truth.
Is anyone sorry for doing wrong?
Does anyone say, “What a terrible thing I have done”?
No! All are running down the path of sin
as swiftly as a horse galloping into battle!
7 Even the stork that flies across the sky
knows the time of her migration,
as do the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane.
They all return at the proper time each year.
But not my people!
They do not know the LORD ‘s laws.

2.They constantly proclaimed their territory, quickly forgetting that God was responsible for their swift departure from Egypt…that God engineered their freedom. In their disobedience they deliberately kept God out – distanced themselves from his blessings and attached themselves to Baal – idol of the world!

Jeremiah 11:1-5

The LORD gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, 2 “Remind the people of Judah and Jerusalem about the terms of my covenant with them. 3 Say to them, `This is what the LORD , the God of Israel, says: Cursed is anyone who does not obey the terms of my covenant! 4 For I said to your ancestors when I brought them out of the iron-smelting furnace of Egypt, “If you obey me and do whatever I command you, then you will be my people, and I will be your God.” 5 I said this so I could keep my promise to your ancestors to give you a land flowing with milk and honey—the land you live in today.”

3. The people confused and blinded their neighbours with godlessness. Devising strategies to dilute the Word of God and draw more people to the worship of idols such as Baal. Covertly designing methods to capture the weak – people who had lost sight of God and thirsty for a replacement.

Jeremiah 10:1-5

1 Hear the word that the LORD speaks to you, O Israel! 2 This is what the LORD says:

“Do not act like the other nations,
who try to read their future in the stars.
Do not be afraid of their predictions,
even though other nations are terrified by them.
3 Their ways are futile and foolish.
They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol.
4 They decorate it with gold and silver
and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails
so it won’t fall over.
5 Their gods are like
helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field!
They cannot speak,
and they need to be carried because they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of such gods,
for they can neither harm you nor do you any good.”

Examples of how we in modern times roar at God:

1. In times of troubles we firstly seek the help of fellow human beings. When we go through storms in life God desires to hear from us first- this demonstrates faith and trust in your heavenly Father.

His precious counsel is required right from the beginning. He will then if necessary place relevant persons to assist us, but we must seek His face first. Seek His will in our lives first and patiently wait on His response- as we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Phil 4:13).

Jeremiah 10:6-7

6 LORD , there is no one like you!
For you are great, and your name is full of power.
7 Who would not fear you, O King of nations?
That title belongs to you alone!
Among all the wise people of the earth
and in all the kingdoms of the world,
there is no one like you.

2. We are fond of claiming and proclaiming territory in our life in our own power – forgetting who placed us there in the first place. We are weak without the Lord and we tend to forget that His grace is sufficient even in our state of sin. We need to have a steadfast spirit of thanking God for His work in our lives.

We cannot continue to ignore His handwork and attribute it to our own efforts. Give thanks for the position you are in life right now – as well as the perks that come attached ( money, influence, fulfilment etc). We must not attempt to push God out of our successes and praise ourselves. Remember He is central to each and every success story in our lives!
He deserves all the glory!

3. We should always be an example of God – and live right! Rather than joining the bandwagon and fooling our neighbours into a false sense of belief that secularism and Christianity work hand in hand. It does not! Although we are not close to perfect- we should be a work in progress for the Lord .

Be first to correct our neighbours in things that are not of God- instead of going with the flow of the general consensus. Stand out for God and He will stand out for you!

Jeremiah 12:14-17

14 Now this is what the LORD says: “I will uproot from their land all the evil nations reaching out for the possession I gave my people Israel. And I will uproot Judah from among them. 15 But afterward I will return and have compassion on all of them. I will bring them home to their own lands again, each nation to its own possession. 16 And if these nations truly learn the ways of my people, and if they learn to swear by my name, saying, `As surely as the LORD lives’ (just as they taught my people to swear by the name of Baal), then they will be given a place among my people. 17 But any nation who refuses to obey me will be uprooted and destroyed. I, the LORD , have spoken!”

Think about it: We should take time to consider how we have been roaring at our Saviour – our Rock- and ways in which we should adjust our behaviours and fellowship more with Jehovah?
